Amara opened her eyes and waited for them to adjust to the soft light. The first thought to enter her groggy mind was the realization that she was, for the first time in many days, actually comfortable. Amara tilted her head slightly forward, finally understanding the cause of this unexpected relief. She was lying on a cushion, covered with a blanket, in a small cabin. But before she could think any further, she was overcome with an excruciating headache that only worsened when she tried to sit up. When Amara propped herself up on bruised elbows, the pressure against her ribs made even the si

Chap2 Part2 :end chap: Marin immediately knelt down beside the body, took hold of a shoulder, and gently rolled the person over. They were even more surprised to see that it was a young woman, perhaps only a few years older than any of them, covered in cuts and bruises. In addition to being slightly torn, her clothes were smeared with blood and some other peculiar black substance. The woman's raven hair was matted to her head, and her hands were caked with dirt. “Is she alive?” Edana asked. Skye got down on one knee next to Marin. She put her cheek to the woman's face and felt her unsteady, but nevertheless present, breath. Skye lookChap2 Part2 :end chap:

Killian and his soldiers had managed to return, unscathed, to the impenetrable fortress on the summit of the great plateau. A fierce wind, the only other entity in existence on the plane, blew the coarse dust in his face – the consequence of living in a place more arid than any imaginable desert and blacker than any onyx stone. A rough, deep laugh woke Joltir mere seconds before its owner threw a vicious kick at the pile of rags and leather scraps Joltir had managed to construct into some semblance of a shelter. The tent had no chance; it crumpled in, leaving its creator trapped in a confusion of leather and collapsed supports. The two men chuckled deep in their throats, laughing at the plight of the tent’s owner: snared within his own creation.
Joltir tried to struggle free, knowing with a sick feeling in his throat that the only way to counter this was with violence. The two men would sweep the floor w
